Linling Xu was born and raised in Hangzhou, China. She has a B.A. in Japanese from Xiamen University in China and an M.A. and Ph.D in International Communications from Nagoya University in Japan. Her dissertation research specialty is in Cultural and Ethnic Studies, with a focus on Australian multiculturalism and ethnic groups. Prior to Burroughs, Linling taught Japanese at the college-level in China, taught Chinese at a variety of levels and worked as a cross-cultural trainer, translator and interpreter in Nagoya, Japan. She has also done community work in both Japan and Australia. She joined the Modern Language Department in 2009 and teaches two sections of beginning Chinese. Her interests outside of school include fine dining, gourmet cooking, traveling, reading, field trips, yoga and aerobics.
